7 Laundry Tips For Twin Parents

As a twin mom myself, laundry can be very daunting if it is not kept regularly. Especially when there are so many other things that I have to do throughout the day. It can be so easy to get behind and neglect the mounds of clothes that need to be washed. This often leads me to feel overwhelmed about all the laundry that I have to wash and put away.

I also hate doing laundry so making sure that I’m constantly keeping up with it can be very difficult for me. Adding two babies on top of my own laundry used to be so frustrating at times. So to help manage all the clothes and to stay ahead of laundry, I have come up with 7 laundry tips for parents of twins.

Laundry Tip #1: Do A Load Every Other Day

This is the most tedious of the tips but it is also the most beneficial. Practicing this laundry tip for twin parents will not only help you manage your laundry, but also keep you way ahead of the laundry game. It’s also helpful for those really messy days or when babies are extra drooly that week due to teething.

Laundry Tip #2: Wash Babies Clothes With Yours

Washing babies clothes with yours is another great way to stay ahead of the laundry. Often if I have a load of laundry that needs to be washed, but not enough to make it a full load, I’ll add any dirty baby clothes to that load to make it a full load.

My husband and sister will also do the same with their clothes if they have room to spare. It’s really a team effort and it helps so much when they add the twins’ clothes with theirs.

Laundry Tip #3: Designate A Laundry Day

I found that incorporating a laundry day into my weekly routine has helped me a lot with staying on top of the laundry as well as balance other chores around the house. This also helps those who don’t do laundry that often, if you designate one day a week to wash all yourclothes and any baby clothes that are dirty and need to be washed.

For me, I like to do as much laundry as I can on Sundays so that we can all start the week with all the clothes that we might need. This has been so helpful with staying on top of the laundry and is one the top laundry tips for twin parents that I could recommend.

Laundry Tip #4: Limit Amount Of Clothes

I make sure that the boys have a sufficient amount of clothes but not too much. I don’t want the laundry to be an endless cycle of clothes so I make sure to constantly go through the clothes and throw out things that don’t fit or are too used.

This helps to keep the laundry from overflowing or becoming too overwhelming for myself. I have a certain amount of “nicer clothes” for special occasions and a certain amount of “casual clothes” for everyday use.

Laundry Tip #5: Use Bibs & Burp Cloths

Having and using bibs and burps cloths is one of the best laundry tips for twin parents that I can suggest. Especially when they are younger or teething. This will help protect your twins’ clothes and prevent you from having to constantly change your babies’ outfits throughout the day.

My babies can be really messy when they eat so I always make sure to have a bib on them. I’ll just use the same bib throughout the day if I can and this helps with having to wash too many bibs or burp cloths.

Laundry Tip #6: Have Diaper Days

I have some days where I just let the boys run around in their diapers or just spend the day in shorts. To me, this is one of the fun laundry tips for twin parents because you don’t have to do anything and you won’t have to worry about any messes or stains on clothes. This tip also helps cut back on dirty clothes.

I usually designate laundry days as diaper days, but honestly it just depends on how I feel, if my boys are in a cooperating mood, if it’s a pool day, or if it’s sweltering that day. My twins prefer not wearing clothes so I don’t mind letting them just chill in their diaper. But I do try to make sure they get dressed regularly to create healthier habits.

Laundry Tip #7: Don’t Bother Folding It

This laundry tip for twin parents is totally up to you. If you prefer folding and hanging your clothes, then that’s amazing. But if you don’t, that is completely fine too. For my own clothes, I fold, hang, and put them away. However, for the twins specifically, I just turn it right side out and throw their clothes in their drawers.

I don’t care about wrinkles (unless it’s their nice outfits) so it makes the whole laundering process a lot easier and saves me so much time by not having to hang every single onesie or fold every pair of pants.

I know how hard it can be to keep up with all the laundry, especially if you have twin babies. I mean laundry can seem endless those first few years when babies are the most messy, drooly, and poopy. Practicing these tips have been a huge help for me and my family so I know these laundry tips for parents of twins will be extremely useful.
